Two thousand people participated in the activities that Fish with Art took place in 2017 in Cartagena (14/03/2018)

Some 2,000 people have directly benefited from the Fish with Art project and another 9,000 have done so indirectly.

These are some of the data that have been known this Wednesday, March 14, about the results of this campaign that has given voice and visibility to sustainable artisanal fishing, in addition to conserving the marine biodiversity of the municipality of Cartagena.

In order to publicize the results of this project, the Councilor of the Area of ​​Quality of Life and Welfare of the City Council of Cartagena, Obdulia Gómez, the representative of the Columbares Association, Carmen Molina;

and the senior patron of the Fishermen's Association of Cartagena, Bartolemé Navarro.

The Fish with Art project was carried out in 2017, to raise awareness of some of the fish species of the Cartagena coast and fishing gear more respectful of our environment.

An initiative of the Columbares Association and the Department of Quality of Life and Wellbeing: Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries, in collaboration with the Fishermen's Association of Cartagena, among other collaborating entities.

Councilor Obdulia Gomez has expressed her satisfaction with this project that has made known little-known species, caught with artisanal fishing "species not well known in the market or that are undervalued have been able to revalue and consumers have been able to know what to do with them "

Gómez has also highlighted "another of the objectives of the project that has been to make known the marine reserves of fishing interest".

The ecological values ​​and the social and environmental role that the reserves of Cabo de Palos-Hormigas Islands and Cabo Tiñoso play in the regeneration of fishery resources have been disseminated.

Through gastronomic workshops, radio programs or dramatized actions, fish such as: the llampúa, the brótola, the rubia, the chanquete, the morena, the royal sea bream, the melva, the magre, the little tunny or the spit have been revalued.

All of them of low economic value and that are disappearing from the kitchens of Cartagena because they do not know how to cook them.

More than 2,000,000 interactions on social networks.

1,500 people have disposed of some of the 12 information sheets of fish species captured with artisanal fishing gear.

With which the biology, curiosities and way of fishing have been made known.

12 radio programs, which have reached at least 40,000 listeners, involving 26 guests from the fishing sector, researchers, conservationists, managers, gastronomes, chefs, educators, professionals in the commercialization and sale of fish sector.

13 gastronomic workshops, with a participation of 253 people.

In them, the project's species, the artisanal fishing gear of the Cartagena coast, the value of artisanal fishing and the marine reserves of fishing interest of Cabo de Palos-Hormigas Islands and Cabo Tiñoso have been made known.

In addition, the participants have learned to clean the fish, culinary and gastronomic applications and recommendations for a responsible fish purchase.

12 theatrical passes in fresh fishmongers, which have been attended by 320 people. Through the theater, information has been provided in a fun, entertaining and participatory way to customers of fresh fishmongers.

In short, 2,000 people have benefited directly from the program and another 9,000 have done so indirectly.
