The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, announced during the celebration of the XLV edition of the Floral Games of La Palma that will initiate the procedures for them to be declared a Site of Intangible Cultural Interest.
"The beauty of the winning poems is a clear example of the durability and magnificence of this contest, which deserves the Declaration of Cultural Interest, for which we are already fighting," Castejón said.
The winners of the literary contest of the Floral Games has been Restituto Núñez Conos de Ciudad Real).
His work 'Twelve shells of light' was recognized with a prize of 1,300 euros and Natural Flower for being the best poetry on the subject 'The Maritime Lights'.
In the modality of Young Poetry, which distinguishes two categories: from 12 to 14 years with a prize of 300 euros and a diploma, and a second category from 15 to 18 years with a prize of 600 euros and a diploma;
in this edition, Andrea Sanjurjo Martínez (A Coruña) won the first category with her poem 'Agoniza la muerte', and in the second, Celia Carrasco Gil (Tudela, Navarra), for her work 'Entre Tempora y Frente'.
In her speech as maintainer, the mayor highlighted the fighting nature of the people of Palma.
"If something is characterized by La Palma is because here nothing happens of course and there are always neighbors willing to fight to enhance the locality.
As mayor, I can attest to that since I've lived it and I know how far you can fight.
This town shines with its own light and that is possible thanks to the perfect combination of the richness of the land and the creativity and perseverance of its people. "
The president of the Regional Assembly, Rosa Peñalver, was also present at the ceremony.
