The Community contributes an additional 25,000 euros to the Museo Teatro Romano to increase the promotion on its tenth anniversary (12/03/2018)

New actions are scheduled for Holy Week, such as an open day and the extension of opening hours

The Community will contribute an additional 25,000 euros to the Roman Theater Museum Foundation of Cartagena to increase the work of promoting the most visited museum in the Region and one of the main symbols of 'Living Legacy'.

This was stated today by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, during the meeting of the Board of the Foundation, made up of the Autonomous Community, the City of Cartagena and the Cajamurcia Foundation.

Celdrán said that "this budget is intended for promotional work to attract even more visitors, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of its opening and the celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.We believe it is a very appropriate investment in one of the emblems of heritage and living legacy of the Region of Murcia, in the museum to which more visitors arrive and that does not stop growing ".

In particular, in 2017 there were 221,970 people who passed through the Museo Teatro Romano, which meant a new historical record of visitors and an increase of 8.7 over the previous year.

Also, in the first two months of the year, the increase registered is 12.6 percent, which means 17,316 people.

Since its inauguration, more than 1,550,600 visitors have visited the Roman theater.

Regarding the type of public of these months of the year, 57 percent visited the Museum individually and 43 percent in groups.

Regarding provenances, 65 percent are national visits and the rest are foreigners, with 42 percent from the United Kingdom and 10 percent from Russia, followed closely by French and Germans.

The counselor highlighted the work of the Museum team "to continue programming activities, attract visitors and generate knowledge." One example is the congress 'La porticus post scaenam in Roman theater architecture', which has already opened the registration period, or the Special programming for Holy Week, contributing to make Cartagena and the Region of Murcia even more attractive during this holiday period ".

Extension of schedules

In Holy Week, the Roman Theater Museum of Cartagena will carry out different activities and will expand schedules to attract more public.

On Friday of Dolores, on March 23, there will be a Conference on Open Doors and visitors can enjoy their museum tour that culminates with the vision of the monument.

In addition, the visiting hours will be extended from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and also opening days.

Thus, it will open its doors on Easter Monday and Easter Monday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the other days, from Tuesday to Sunday, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

During these days, you can visit the temporary exhibitions of the Museum: the sample of Martínez Mengual 'Tristezas.

Ovidio ', for which the artist will make a guided tour on the 23rd at 12:00 o'clock;

and the exhibition 'Elementals: from the material to the emotional', by Rosana Sitcha, which is exhibited in two venues, in the Consistorial Palace of Cartagena and in the Roman Theater Museum.
