Cartagena will host during the last week of April a simulation of the emergency of a large earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale.
This exercise is part of the simulations that will be carried out in several municipalities of the Region of Murcia and organized by the autonomous community through the Ministry of Presidency and Development and the Military Emergency Unit (UME).
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, received Friday at the Consistorial Palace the Director General of Citizen Security and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, and the Lieutenant Colonel Chief of the III UME Battalion, Javier Moreno, in a meeting at the that also has been present the mayor of Public Safety, Francisco Aznar.
Subsequently, the general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, together with the chief lieutenant colonel of the III UME Battalion, Javier Moreno, chaired this morning at the Palacio de Aguirre a meeting with the coordinators of the working groups of the joint exercise 'Murcia 2018'.
In this practice, the different groups of action contemplated in the Civill Protection plans will participate with the most responsible of the municipal emergency services to specify the participation of the same in the exercise and their role in the command structure.
The general director of Citizen Security has highlighted the importance of drills, "which prevent improvisation from occurring in an emergency situation" and in turn, "put to the test the capabilities of the region where this drill takes place."
Carrasco stressed that this drill "will mobilize more than 3,000 people, including professionals from different emergency services, military and civilians, to address the various alleged disasters that will occur in various municipalities in the region."
EMERGENCY NATIONAL LEVEL
For its part, the Lieutenant Colonel Chief of the Third Battalion of the UME, has reported that this exercise is part of the emergencies at the national level, also called emergency level 3 and where the address is the responsibility of the State.
Finally, he said that in this exercise all the capabilities of the UME and the Armed Forces are put to the test and that all administrations come together to give the best response to an emergency of this magnitude.
