Cartagena will be the scene of a major earthquake of magnitude 5.7 degrees on the Richter seismological scale in the simulation of emergency of national interest that will take place the last week of April in several municipalities of the Region of Murcia, and that organize the Autonomous Community , through the Ministry of the Presidency and Development, and the Military Emergency Unit (UME).
To that end, the general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, together with the chief lieutenant colonel of the III UME Battalion, Javier Moreno, presided this morning in Cartagena a meeting with the coordinators of the working groups of the joint exercise combined 'Murcia 2018'.
In this practice, the different groups of action contemplated in the Civil Protection plans (intervention, logistics, health, public order, social action, restoration of essential services, damage assessment and chemical safety, among others) will participate with the most responsible of the municipal emergency services to specify their participation in the exercise and their role in the command structure.
Carrasco stressed that "the simulation will mobilize more than 3,000 people, including professionals from the different emergency services, military and civilians, to address the different alleged disasters that will occur in various municipalities in the region."
Thus, the registration of an earthquake of 5.7 with epicenter in the municipal area of ​​Cartagena that will cause serious damages and victims will be simulated.

This will trigger the activation of the Civil Protection Plan against Seismic Risk in the Region of Murcia (Sisimimur) until its situation 3, which is an emergency of national interest, and the intervention of up to 3,000 people, of which half belong to the Unit Emergency Military and the rest to members of the different departments of the Autonomous Community, Government Delegation, affected and bordering municipalities, organizations such as the Red Cross and companies.
To give details of the exercise in the municipality of Cartagena, the general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies and the chief lieutenant colonel of the III UME Battalion, Javier Moreno, met with the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.
