Fifty social organizations from the Comarca of Cartagena will show their projects at today's UCAM Volunteer Fair in Cartagena, inaugurated today by the president of the San Antonio Catholic University, José Luis Mendoza, the mayor of Cartagena. Ana Belén Castejón, the vicar of the city, José Abellán, and the General Director of Family and Social Policies of the Autonomous Community, Miriam Pérez.
The good reception of the first edition of this event to facilitate that these groups get new collaborators, which will be held in the Plaza de Heroes de Cavite throughout today and tomorrow as well as Sunday morning, has meant overcoming the forecasts initials, with the participation of entities such as Cáritas, Cruz Roja or Fisat, youth groups such as the Scouts Boscos 200 and the Ancora club, as well as socio-health groups such as AFIBROCAR or SODICAR, among many others.
The president of the UCAM stressed that "here we have many associations that are doing extraordinary work with the elderly, the poorest and the most needy, giving their lives for them." This is a task that we want to be known by the Cartagena and to the extent of their possibilities collaborate with these associations that are doing so well, we from the University also support them, with this fair, sending professionals from the health field, students who will do internships with them and professionals who will be free of charge. They offer to help, but we also do it financially, for example, scholarships have been awarded to students, families in need and to sports, missions in Africa and America, aid to associations, and now we want to help people in Iraq and Syria both in our schools and in the university. "
And is that he stressed that "if there is an institution in the world that is giving to those who need it most where nobody wants to go, there is the Catholic Church."
For its part, the mayor thanked the Catholic University and its president for this Fair and stressed that "the doors of their land are open" and therefore "we are here the Government and society of Cartagena supporting an initiative worthy of praise where all the citizens of Cartagena will have the opportunity to meet in these stand the work done by so many collectives in a disinterested way in Cartagena, that will allow us to give visibility to a job sometimes in silence, quiet, to help to those who need it most and those who have least. This Fair is promoted by the International Institute of Charity and Volunteering of the Catholic University within its social commitment in Cartagena, for which it has had the collaboration of Amavis Residences, Hotel Los Habaneros, Practiser, the councils of Youth and Social Services and the Port Authority of Cartagena.
