Cartagena will have three access points for recreational boats on beaches that will eliminate irregular anchorages (27/02/2018)

Ramps will be installed in Los Urrutias, Islas Minores and Playa Honda that will involve an investment of 161,000 euros and will be co-financed by the regional government and the European Union

Cartagena will have three access points for recreational boats on the beaches of Los Urrutias, Islas Minores and Playa Honda, which will help eliminate irregular anchorages in the Mar Menor.

In particular, ramps will be installed to facilitate the users the operation of launching their boats, so that they can have them stored on land and take them out to navigate with ease when they wish.

The counselor of Presidency and Development, Pedro Rivera, today presented this project "pioneer in the Region of Murcia" in Poniente Beach, in the Cartagena area of Islas Menor, accompanied by the deputy mayor of Cartagena, Juan Pedro Torralba;

the head of the Demarcation of Coasts, Francisco Marín, and the presidents of the federations of sailing, canoeing and motor boating.

Pedro Rivera stressed that access points for boats are a "priority for the regional executive" action, which is part of the Plan for the Use of Mar Menor that promotes the Autonomous Community and that, among other objectives, aims to eliminate anchorage irregular in the lagoon.

"This project will make recreational or tourism uses compatible with environmental values by promoting responsible navigation, which is practiced by the vast majority of users of the lagoon," said the owner of Development.

"We offer an alternative to irregular anchorages," said the counselor, who indicated that the choice of points has been made by collecting the proposals of the different municipalities and after a classification process based on the difficulties of each one (summer traffic , viability of the ramp, availability of parking or environmental conditions, among others).

Work

Rivera announced that the tender for the works will be published this week in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM), and it is expected that the works will be completed before the end of the year.

In the construction of the three points of access in Cartagena will invest more than 161,000 euros, which added to the projected in San Javier will reach 208,000 euros.

Both infrastructures are co-financed by the regional government and the European Union, and have a favorable report from the State Coastal Demarcation.

In most points the accesses will be perpendicular to the coast, in order to occupy the minimum area of land, with a maximum width of six meters and a variable length that will depend on the needs of each area.

The ramps will be composed of two sections of different material, they will be removable, they will be joined to each other by stainless steel rings and will reach the areas where uncooled sand exists and which could hinder the entry of vehicles.

The first section will be extruded plastic material recycled, partly submerged on the seabed to reach 0.5 meters depth, and the second will be an articulated walkway of prefabricated concrete.
