Municipal brigades have proceeded, this afternoon, to the withdrawal of the commemorative monolith of the entry of General Franco's troops in March 1939 to Cartagena, ending the civil war.
Specifically the IV Division of Navarre commanded by General Camilo Alonso Vega.
The monolith was erected in the gardens of the Muralla del Mar on June 11, 1946 and had the following inscription: "In memory of the fallen of the IV Navarra Division that liberated Cartagena on March 31, 1939".
It was the last of the monuments affected by the application of the Law of Memory in Cartagena, according to the agreement adopted by the City Council.
Previously in the city, the busts of Admiral Bastarreche and General José López Pinto have been withdrawn under this agreement.
