The follow-up commission of the "Addendum of the preliminary technical study of feasibility and alternatives of the necessary actions for the remodeling of the Arterial Railway Network of Cartagena" has analyzed today in its first meeting, held in Madrid, the bases and the schedule of the study necessary to facilitate the arrival of high speed to the city, within the framework of the integration of the railway in the city.
The meeting was attended by the General Coordinator of Sustainable Development, Ángeles López;
accompanied by several city council technicians who "have come to Madrid to hear the options they offer us and what is the situation of Cartagena with respect to the AVE project," said the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.
He also added that the ideal would be for the AVE to reach the underground municipality, "but it is also true that in terms of the Environment they have to explain certain issues such as soil and possible contamination and decontamination," he added.
"There are many questions to put on the table, and see what solutions are given and most importantly, see in what part and measure each administration assumes its competence and therefore its budget," said Castejón, while at the same time to look for a solution "viable and that harms the least possible to the neighbors of Cartagena".
Adif sources have indicated that the study will include the necessary technical works for the remodeling of the current station of Cartagena, in order to accommodate high-speed traffic, adapting the solution developed in the construction projects of the Mediterranean Corridor in the field of the station, as well as the feasibility study of railway integration in the city.
In this way, the different alternatives agreed by the Board of Directors of the Cartagena High Speed ​​Company will be analyzed, starting from the premise of using the current station for the arrival of high speed, comparing costs and deadlines.
Based on the conclusions of these works, which will be developed within four months, the Cartagena High Speed ​​Society will choose the best option for the drafting and execution of subsequent projects.
The convocation of this commission responds to the commitment, that the mayor Ana Belén Castejón managed to start the Minister of Development in his visit to Cartagena, to promote the necessary actions to promote the connection of Cartagena to the high-speed network and the coordination of all the necessary actions for this.
The commission was chaired by the deputy general director of Railway Planning of the Ministry of Development and has representatives of each of the partner administrations of Cartagena Alta Velocidad (City Council, Autonomous Community and Adif / Adif AV).
The Ministry has committed to have a feasibility report outlined for next April, which must contemplate all possible alternatives so that they can be analyzed in the High Speed ​​Society Board of Directors, which will be attended by the mayor Ana Belén Castejón .
