The works have a budget of about 300,000 euros and is scheduled to end in June
The Autonomous Community extends the 'Ben Arabí' institute in Cartagena with a new building that will be used as a lecture hall and that will benefit the 833 students enrolled in the center, 545 Secondary students and 287 Baccalaureate students.
The Minister of Education, Adela Martínez-Cachá, visited the works today and stressed that the actions in this institute will allow the removal of the two prefabricated classrooms installed in the center.
"We comply with another of our main objectives, which is to progressively eliminate these types of classrooms in the Region," he said.
Regarding the actions that are being carried out at the institute, Martínez-Cachá explained that "they consist of the construction of a new building composed of four spacious classrooms, perfectly accessible toilets and a landscaped courtyard in the center of the construction that will serve to provide a nice lighting and ventilation to the interior distribution hall ".
The counselor added that "from the Ministry we show, with projects like this, our bioclimatic conscience".
In addition, he announced that "we have also planned a possible future expansion in the height of this new building, so that, both in the distribution and in the calculation of the structure, you can have two floors above ground".
The counselor congratulated the educational community "for having made the center a reference in the whole region."
He stressed that the IES Ben Arabí has ​​launched many of the programs promoted by the Ministry, such as 'Integrated Hours' or 'Health Education', "and is also an example in its commitment to languages, with the 'Bilingual Program' or the 'Bachibac' ".
The center was awarded in 2015 by the French Government with the label 'Label France Education', which recognizes centers that stand out, especially for offering a bilingual education of the French language and culture of the highest quality and excellence.
The works began in December and at the moment the excavations are being carried out to make the foundation.
The performances, which have a total budget of 291,571 euros, are expected to end in the month of June.
Martínez Cachá concluded by highlighting "the commitment of the regional government for Cartagena, our firm commitment to continue improving infrastructure in Cartagena to enhance educational quality."
The counselor said that the construction of a new center for Early Childhood and Primary Education in La Aljorra is also planned, which will involve an investment of 4,025,000 euros;
as well as the dining room at the CEIP Vicente Ros;
the improvement of the electrical installation in the IES Politécnico, which amounts to 94,000 euros;
the extension of the Santa Florentina CEIP of La Palma, for an amount of 727,000 euros;
and the rehabilitation of the Lazareto building in the CIFP Hespérides.
