Historical review
The antiquity of the Marine Corps is fixed by Royal Decree 1888/1978 on February 27, 1537, justifying itself in various historical events that occurred during the reigns of Felipe II, Felipe V and later.
The date on which the Anniversary of the oldest Marine Infantry in the world is celebrated each year is thus established.
The port city has maintained an intense relationship with the Marine Corps since time immemorial.
The latest modifications of the structure of the Navy and the redeployment of its Units have only increased this relationship.
Thus, in recent years we have seen how the number of Units and personnel of the Marine Corps in Cartagena has been increasing.
