The national deputies of Ciudadanos, Miguel Garaulet and José Luis Martínez, together with the spokesman of the Municipal Group in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, have been received by the president of the Port Authority of Cartagena, Antonio Sevilla, and the head of the Exploitation Area, José María Gómez and have been able to see first hand the main projects and objectives of the Port of Cartagena for its own infrastructure and for the municipality.
The deputies of the orange training in the Congress were interested during much of the meeting in knowing the state in which are the environmental and administrative procedures that must still overcome the project of the new dock of El Gorguel, a work that could be budgeted near of the 750 million euros, to work with 1.5 million containers in its first phase and that could generate 30,000 jobs, of which 3,000 will be direct.
A Port connected to the future
According to Deputy Miguel Garaulet, "For Citizens, the Port of Cartagena is the locomotive of development not only of the Region of Cartagena but of the Autonomous Community, from the industrial, touristic and service point of view;
a development closely linked to another capital project for Citizens such as the ZAL of Cartagena, and that is why it is important to review the opportunities that the Port of Cartagena has to be able to grow;
In addition, it is absolutely necessary that it has a connection with the future Mediterranean Corridor and the extension of the highway to Escombreras to further develop this industrial hub ".

Regarding the possibility of the Port to expand its capacity, the orange deputy explained that "it was important to know first hand in what state is this project that could generate thousands of jobs and environmental guarantees, but until we have The completed Environmental Master Plan will not be able to have a truly informed opinion. Transforming project
Antonio Sevilla explained to the orange delegation that it is probably the most transformative project that is pending in Spain, and that they already have drafts for the compensatory measures that have to do with the Site of Community Importance (SCI) land and the Area of Special Protection of Birds (ZEPA) and that is working to obtain the marine LIC, which is more complex.
With the approval of these three drafts, the Environmental Sustainability Report (ISA) of the project will be completed, after which the Council of Ministers will be in a position to declare it a Project of National Interest and be sent to Brussels, which must approve the entire project. both the ISA and the Master Plan.
On the other hand, Seville mentioned several studies that conclude that the terminal and container map in the area of ​​influence of the Port of Cartagena is deficient and does not meet the demand that will exist in a few years and recalled that a container port that is It finds 80 to 85 percent of its capacity, it is a saturated port that has serious mobility problems.
According to Seville, the European trend is to increase the share of maritime traffic, and Cartagena can not afford to be left behind in its level of competitiveness.
