The Councilor for Culture, Education and Youth, David Martinez, received on Saturday February 17, at the Palace Hall, a delegation of members of the Literary Friendship Assembly Jorge Juan de Novelda.
During the visit they exchanged impressions and spoke about the relations that connect Cartagena with the neighboring city of Alicante, around the figure of the sailor and novelist scientist, Jorge Juan, in charge of the modernization of the Cartagena Arsenal and its shipyards.
In fact, as pointed out by David Martinez, a tourist visit has already been closed by neighbors from Novelda to Cartagena, where they will learn about the modernist legacy and the Military Arsenal.
The Literary Friendly Assembly was instituted in 1755 by the sailor and novelist scientist Jorge Juan y Santacilia, in his house in Cádiz, as captain of the Royal Company of Marine Guards.
For several years he was meeting every Thursday to discuss science issues.
After the death of Jorge Juan, the assembly continued to meet until its activity ceased.
In 1983 it was recovered by Jorge Juan Guillén Salvetti and nowadays they meet in Novelda with diverse activities that they organize all the year: conferences, exhibitions, contests, mainly around the science and the figure of Jorge Juan.
The councilor, David Martinez, explained that later this visit will be answered by noveldenses, with another from Cartagena to Novelda to visit the Modernist House Museum, created by another illustrious person, in this case, a Woman.
Antonina Navarro (the pichocha) also linked by his business with Cartagena.
The members of the Literary Friendly Assembly were accompanied during their stay in Cartagena by the two official chroniclers of the city, Luis Miguel Pérez Adán, and Francisco José Franco.
