More participants than in the previous edition.
The VII Regional Agri-Food and Agro-environmental Olympiad, held at the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering (ETSIA) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), has exceeded all the expectations of its organizers.
180 students from 18 centers throughout the region are facing this Friday a test of Industrial Technology, Biology or Earth and Environmental Sciences.
'This year we have overflowed the forecasts', says the director of ETSIA adding that this type of tests help to promote the interest of young people for the degrees they teach at the School and that helps them to opt for a degree or other.
The inauguration was attended by the Rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz and the Director General of Universities, Juan Monzó.
The rector of the University has encouraged young people to opt for a professional future as agronomists, since in the Region 'there is room to develop this theme'.
Besides that, he recalled that behind the products that the consumer receives 'there is a lot of technology that is unknown', in reference to the statements made by some students during the Biotechnological Routes.
For his part, the Director General of Universities has indicated that this is one of the 15 Olympics that are held in the Region and has encouraged girls to study scientific careers explaining that the regional government will grant 100 scholarships to promote scientific vocations among women, who currently represent 20% of students in this type of careers.
This action is the result of the call for 'Aid to the Organization of Scientific Olympiads of the Region of Murcia' funded by the Ministry of Employment, Universities and Enterprise of the CARM, through the Seneca Foundation-Science and Technology Agency of the Region of Murcia '.
