The Region of Murcia has hosted in Cartagena on February 14 and 15 the meeting of the governing body, called Political Bureau, of the Intermediterranean Commission (CIM).

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has welcomed the representatives of the board on February 14 in the afternoon in a meeting at the Town Hall.

"We are in one of the main ports of the Mediterranean, melting pot of multiple civilizations that have contributed in a decisive way to the construction of a cozy, supportive, friendly and rich in cultural, patrimonial, tourist and gastronomic offer" , explained Castejón to the directors of the Political Bureau.

"Walking through our streets is a privilege for our senses and a whole history lesson since in just a few meters you can discover the Punic wall, the theater, the forum or the agusteum," he said, while also remembering that of the Roman legacy, Cartagena has magnificent modernist buildings such as the Gran Hotel or the Palace Hall.

He also indicated that Cartagena is one of the few cities in the Mediterranean that has managed to recover its deposits, respecting the urban fabric and including it.

He has also used to name the multiple military constructions, "which during the illustration made our city one of the main defensive places of our country."

The mayoress has recommended to the representatives of the CIM "to enjoy our gastronomy as the delicious cauldrons or the tasty Asian ones, that will be able to taste in many establishments very near here".

"I could also talk about the difficulties of being a Mediterranean port and the needs, which are many, in terms of infrastructure," said the mayor.

"But today it does not touch that, today it's time to enjoy our town to know and taste Cartagena," he concluded.

The Intermediterranean Commission (CIM) is an interregional organization of European and Mediterranean scope, to which the Region of Murcia belongs, within the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions.
