The IES Ben Arabí has ​​delivered this morning February 14 of the XX Edition of the Jacinto Alcaraz Mellado Prize, aimed at those people or institutions that have distinguished themselves for their work in favor of solidarity, tolerance and coexistence in the Region of Murcia.
In this edition the award has been addressed to the Association of Relatives and Friends of Alzehimer de Cartagena y Comarca (AFAL).
The award ceremony was chaired by the director of the IES Ben Arabí, Manuel Díaz Segura;
the General Subdirector of Educational Innovation and Attention to Diversity, Guillermo Insa Martínez;
the president of the AMPA of the IES Ben Arabí, José Andrés Martínez Madrid;
the director of the IES Ben Arabí from 1991 to 2011 and precursor of the Jacinto Alcaraz Award, Xavier Martínez and Sánchez de Neyra;
and the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, who is in charge of delivering the award.
Insa has begun his speech emphasizing that from the Ministry of Education have never hesitated to support an award that reinforces values ​​for students such as tolerance, coexistence, solidarity and generosity, which has added "enhance the human factor and they help students to be resilient. "
For its part, the mayor of Cartagena has indicated that childhood and youth are decisive stages because they consolidate character and personality is determined, so he stressed that it is not enough that young people "hear about altruistic values ", But must" be part of your daily routine. "
He also congratulated the institute on "the great choice" of the award-winning association and congratulated the parents of the children who, by collaborating in this event, "show their involvement and concern for the education of their children, not only academic, but also human ".
The president of the AFAL, María José Reguero Hernández has received the award from the hand of the mayor of Cartagena and has said a few words of thanks, where she took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of empathy, "to feel the pain of the others like our own. "
In addition, he has expressed his desire that we all have some time in life someone like Jacinto, "that will set a pattern of generosity, coexistence and love for others" and thanked the work of the team that is part of the association , as well as the partners and all the people who collaborate in one way or another.
He recalled that the association was born as a small place with two people, to later expand to other places in the region where they help the sick and their caregivers, with the aim that people have their memories for longer and those who care find a break in the association.
Finally, we proceeded to present the poster of the XXI edition of the prize, designed by the professor of Drawing of the IES Ben Arabi, Carmen Ortiz Góngora, who has not been able to attend for health reasons.
