For the first time, the Spanish Paddle Championship for People with Intellectual Disabilities will be held in Cartagena.
The championship has been organized by the Spanish Sports Federation for People with Intellectual Disabilities, and has the collaboration of the City of Cartagena and the Autonomous Community.
The event will be held from February 12 to 15.
The Councilor for Sports of Cartagena, Obdulia Gómez;
the general director of Sports of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Alonso Gómez;
the president of the Spanish Sports Federation for people with Intellectual Disability in Murcia, José Zomeño;
and the vice-president of the sports club Primi Sport Cartagena, Isidro Martínez, were in charge, on Thursday, February 8, to offer all the details of the Championship.
In this Championship of Spain will participate 90 athletes from 12 clubs that will come from the delegations of Andalusia, Valencia, Murcia and Madrid.
All of them will compete February 15 at the Pádel Center Cartago (from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.).
Another 49 participants will arrive in Cartagena to participate in the training sessions that will take place from February 12 to 14.
The test includes different modalities in the category of competition (male and female pairs), adapted (male and female pairs) and sports skills (mixed pairs).
"The Department is always on the side of sport and in a very special way adapted sport and athletes with other capabilities," said Obdulia Gomez.
The mayor also wanted to highlight that "Cartagena is becoming headquarters for the championships organized by the Spanish Sports Federation for people with intellectual disabilities", proof of this is the celebration of other championships in Spain that have had Cartagena as the backdrop indoor soccer, basketball, petanque, and athletics "that have been held with great success in Cartagena".
The organizers estimate that the total of the sports delegation that will visit Cartagena, on the occasion of this championship, will be about 300 people.
Since the training sessions are scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the afternoons will be dedicated to touring the city.
It is worth mentioning the visit that will be made Tuesday to the Town Hall and the Roman Theater Museum.
For his part, the General Director of Sports of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Alonso Gómez has celebrated that the City of Cartagena supports this type of sporting events, also remarked that "sport serves to make tourism enjoying the climate, gastronomy and of course, hotels will also benefit from this event, so once again tourism and sports are associated ".
