The European Day of Ancient Music will be celebrated with Bach Week Cartagena (08/02/2018)

For the third consecutive year, Cartagena will experience Bach's Cartagena Week: a cycle of activities that revolve around the figure of Johann Sebastian Bach, coinciding with the European Day of Early Music.

The event will be held from Friday 16 to Wednesday 21 March and is organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena and the Early Music Project platform, with the collaboration of other institutions.

The initiative, which seeks to bring Bach music to society, was presented on Thursday, February 8, by the councilor of the Culture area, David Martínez, and by the manager of Early Music, Projetc, Jorge Losana.

The Participatory Cantata will be held on March 21 and is once again the star activity of this project linked to the European Day of Ancient Music.

This last day is celebrated throughout Europe, since 2013, the European Day of Ancient Music, which coincides with the beginning of Spring and the anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, born on March 21, 1685, according to the calendar Julian.

The mayor of Culture has explained that this new edition, the training comes "from the hand of the harpsichordist Silvia Márquez, director of the prestigious group La Tempestad".

Along with it, members of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Cartagena will enter the world of historicist interpretation, "a unique opportunity that can attend during the 16th and 17th of March."

In addition, these classes will be open to the public, so that the whole city can get closer to contemplate how learning is with Silvia Márquez.

The opening concert of Bach Week Cartagena will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, March 17 in the hall of the City of Cartagena, an event in which the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Cartagena will interpret the issues worked with Silvia Márquez.

The students will also offer different musical events during Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 February.

Among the activities scheduled for this edition is the participative cantata that will take place on March 21, European Day of Ancient Music, at 8:30 p.m. at the Church of Charity.

The theme chosen for this popular concert will be the Cantata BWV 12 'Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen', by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Works by English composer Henry Purcell will also be performed.

As soloist voices of this participatory cantata, Early Music Project brings Cartagena to Inés Alonso (soprano), Samuel Tapia (countertenor), Eduardo Pérez (tenor) and Valentín Miralles (bass), of the Superior School of Music of Catalonia.

The choirs of Cartagena Choral Carthagonova, Iuvenis Music, Coral Sauces School, IES Juan Sebastián Elcano Choir and the Argentum Choir will accompany the soloists.

They will also join their voices the University Choir of Murcia accompanied by the Orchestra of the University of Murcia.

All of them directed by Jorge Losana, to interpret the music of the baroque maestro.

The call to attend and participate in the event opens from this Friday, February 9 through the web www.bachcartagena.com.
