The Josefina Soria Library of the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center will host the talk on Vegetable Cognition: the next revolution, at the hands of Professor Francisco Calvo.
The conference is part of the activities planned for Cartagena Piensa.
During the activity, which was initially scheduled for January 18 but was postponed due to the indisposition of the speaker, Paco Calvo will talk about how plants are intelligent to the extent that their behavior is not only adaptive but also flexible and anticipatory.
The exponent will explain how this allows them to act proactively, making decisions in the face of environmental contingencies.
Paco Calvo is Professor of Philosophy of Science at the Faculty of Philosophy of the UMU, doctor by the University of Glasgow and principal investigator of the Minimal Intelligence Lab. His research work extends to various areas of knowledge within Cognitive Science, with special emphasis on plant neurobiology and ecological psychology.
Francisco Calvo will be accompanied by the professor of the Plant Physiology Department of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (ETSIA UPCT), Mª Ángeles Ferrer, in charge of presenting the conference.
This talk, organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena also has the collaboration of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Murcia.
