Well-known the news of the declaration, on the part of the Council of Government of the CARM, of the Latin Sailing like Well of Intangible Cultural Interest, the person in charge of Culture and Patrimony of MC Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, has celebrated that recognition that comes to corroborate the work and the commitment of the cartagenerista training in achieving it.
It should be recalled that MC filed a motion last February of 2017 to request the support of the Plenary to urge the Directorate General of Cultural Assets the declaration of the Latin Sailing on the coast of Cartagena as an Intangible Cultural Interest.
This proposal was fully accepted, confirming its opening just a few weeks later by the regional body itself.
In this sense, Segado has assured that "it produces us a great satisfaction, since with this measure the Vela Latina is consolidated as heritage of the Mediterranean culture and as a sport practice in our coasts".
In the same way, the mayor has pointed out that "this type of boats crossed the Mediterranean since time immemorial".
MC bet for native sports
One of the pillars of the sports policy of MC Cartagena since its arrival to the municipal government, was the bet and the promotion of native sports such as the Vela Latina or the cartageneros bowling, sports practice that since March 2017 have their own Federation also thanks to the impulse of the cartagenerista formation.
Thus, Mayor José López participated in different acts of support for these sports, such as the closure of the Vela Latina season or the departure of the first regatta of the Carabela de Plata Trophy 'Ciudad de Cartagena'.
This work was recognized in April 2017 by the Santa Lucía Yacht Club, an entity that presented López with the award given to individuals, entities or institutions that stand out for their work in defense of the Vela Latina.
