The mayor Ana Belén Castejón attended this morning the meeting of the Executive Commission of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia that was held in San Pedro del Pinatar to discuss local financing.
In this meeting, the cost of assuming improper powers by local administrations has been discussed.
Ana Belén Castejón has reported that the City of Cartagena spends more than 14 million euros to respond to citizens in matters whose responsibility corresponds to other administrations.
Most of this money goes to actions related to Social Services.
This situation hinders the municipal budget so the mayor has argued that both regional and national administrations assume the problem and improve the funding of the municipalities.
In this sense, one of the main demands of FMRM is the need for the Autonomous Community to draw up a Local Financing Law that guarantees the principles of equality, solidarity and justice between municipalities.
For this reason, the mayor applauds the initiative of the FMRM to organize a conference on Local Financing with national experts such as Ana María Muñoz, president of the Committee of Experts in Autonomic and Local Financing;
Manuel Robles Delgado, Mayor of Fuenlabrada;
and Juan Ávila, general secretary of the FEMP, among others.
