Identifying the weaknesses that hinder the empowerment of women is what the Department of Equality has intended through the study they have commissioned, called 'Analysis of the variables that can influence the process of empowerment of women'.
For this analysis, a sampling was carried out among 229 women of the municipality of Cartagena.
The study was presented on Tuesday, January 23, by the mayor of Cartagena, in his first appearance as councilor of the area of ​​Equality.
Along with her, the coordinator of Equality, María José Mercader, was in charge of preparing the program 'Mírate', of the School for the Empowerment of Women.
The quarterly program presents workshops and courses, through which women will be given the tools to boost their capacities.
The weaknesses detected in the study will give the keys to the Department of Equality to continue designing strategies that allow them to guide women to boost their own capabilities, and continue to develop equality policies, which in the words of Ana Bélén Castejón " his corporation are very important and transverse to all areas of government. "
Ana Bélén Castejón has also emphasized that "women are not a collective, they are half of the population".
The mayor has based for this statement on the population data of the municipality of Cartagena, on January 1, 2018, in which 215,134 inhabitants, 107,320 are women.
The large sample was taken of 41 women under 30, 72 between the ages of 30 and 44, 66 women between 45 and 64, and finally 50 who were over 65. To the total of 229 Women were asked about different areas: the staff, the family and the social.
Through these questionnaires it has been tried, to know the beliefs and the perceptions of the woman about herself, to know also the aptitudes of the woman about her family environment and her relation with herself and finally, to find out the predisposition of the woman in his behavior with all his surroundings.
Some data that Castejón has highlighted in this study are that 34% of the women surveyed wanted to change some aspect of themselves.
Another significant fact is that only 29% of respondents under 30 years of age feel satisfied with themselves.
As for the physical aspect, women between 30 and 44 years old are the ones that are best valued.
At the level of life satisfaction, 30% consider that their life is not satisfactory.
Regarding their degree of formative satisfaction, it is the range of those over 65 who show less satisfaction with themselves.
Other significant data of this study are the need for women to tell them that they have done well, the large percentage that puts their family before themselves and finally, the high percentage (55%) that are not I like your work situation.
The Department of Equality has designed from this analysis different activities that will allow women to have the necessary tools to boost their capabilities.
The program 'Mírate' includes for the months of January, February and March;
and they are free, for all women who sign up for them.
Theater workshops, creation of mandalas, pelvic floor and pregnancy, or personal defense against an attempt of aggression, are just some of the activities.
