The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) shows its commitment to ethics and transparency in the II Corporate Social Responsibility Report (CSR).
According to the document prepared by the members of the Chair of Culture and Management and Business Ethics of the UPCT, Ignacio Segado, Simón Hernández Aguado, Antonia Madrid Aguado and Mª Eugenia Sánchez Vidal, the Polytechnic of Cartagena has dedicated in the period of 2013 2016 efforts to improve communication and transparency, evaluating and showing the social, economic and environmental impact that the University generates in its environment.
The Transparency Portal of the University, as well as the UPCT Responsible website, collect information such as financial planning, the quality of UPCT services, the management of CSR or its governance structure.
Transparency is one of the core values ​​of the UPCT, in fact, the University is the most transparent in the Region.
The Code of Ethics of the University shows its high commitment to achieving responsible management of university activity.
This commitment has made it possible to move towards greater accountability to its stakeholders, facilitating access to information and relevant data of the University through the Transparency Portal.
The economic information, as well as the advances made in data management, electronic administration, communication and development of new technologies, show how the University is managed with efficiency and transparency, obtaining the maximum performance of the resources that society puts at its disposal. disposition and achieving remarkable results in the commitment with the teaching and research excellence, the welfare of the university community and the sustainable development.
The different reports that the University periodically elaborates through its different management services, also help to show the results and reasoning that exist behind the decisions made about the activity of the UPCT.
In this sense, the I CSR Report, published in 2015, represented a relevant step towards the institutionalization of Social Responsibility in the University and, consequently, consolidates this commitment to transparency.
The CSR website also serves as an electronic support to show the progress, status and necessary improvements in the activity of the University to achieve a responsible, ethical and sustainable UPCT.
The II Corporate Social Responsibility Report (CSR) of the UPCT allows us to continue consolidating the commitment and development of responsible management in the university sphere.
This document gives continuity to the task started by the University with the development of other documents and tools such as the Code of Ethics, the Transparency Portal, the CSR Portal, the Integrated Management Model of Social Responsibility or the elaboration of the I Memory of CSR, among others, allowing it to advance towards its consolidation as an ethical, responsible and sustainable University.
The UPCT has improved its responsibility to achieve a more democratic, balanced, egalitarian and tolerant University, renewing the organization and activities of the Equality Unit, giving a boost to the calls for new places and promotions of its staff, guaranteeing working conditions safer and healthier, and moving towards a fairer and more equitable selection, salary and promotion policy, based on professional skills and merits.
To achieve excellence in this regard, the training actions of the staff have been oriented towards entrepreneurship, knowledge management, the use of ICT, internationalization, social skills or ethics and sustainability.
In addition, the report reflects the orientation of the teaching institution towards the socio-economic reality of its environment to guarantee the employability of its graduates and their scientific-technical knowledge.
To do this, it encourages R & D & i activities to respond to the needs of the different regional productive sectors.
To adapt the academic offer to the demands of the work environment and the students, the number of undergraduate degrees (19), official master's degrees (24), doctoral programs (23) and graduate degrees (21) have increased.
In addition, progress has been made in the development of new pedagogical methodologies that continue to strengthen the international character and the labor insertion of students.
This has allowed to maintain the satisfaction of the students with the received teaching, which stands at 3.73 out of five points in the undergraduate degrees and in 3.77 points out of five in the official master's degrees.
Likewise, the University has increased the number of economic resources dedicated to improving the integration and equality of opportunities of the students through multiple own scholarships.
Regarding the social management of knowledge through research, the economic resources dedicated to research, scientific production and knowledge transfer activities have been increased to respond to the needs of the different productive sectors of their environment and contribute to the social welfare of its citizens.
For this, the work carried out by the Network of Chairs and the Culture and Innovation Unit has been fundamental.
The total funding of research projects has increased by 28% in the period 2014-2016, highlighting the growth of national and regional projects whose funding had decreased in previous years.
The University Extension activities are consolidated, as reflected in the Report, as an engine and cultural dynamizer of their environment, through the promotion of democratic values, multicultural integration, solidarity and social progress.
The evolution of volunteer services, cultural promotion and people who practice activities offered by the Sports Service, show the contribution of the UPCT to achieve a healthy society and actively participate in the sustainable development of their environment.
Also, environmental awareness, participation and dissemination activities, together with the UPCT's support for sustainable mobility, reinforce the University's commitment to the Environment.
Finally, the University has reached a greater degree of maturity in cooperation and dialogue with companies, governments and other organizations that collaborate in the socioeconomic and technological development and in the labor insertion of its students from a regional, national and international perspective.
