The spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena has received the president of the Federation of Aquaculture Companies of the Region of Murcia (FARM), Juan Manuel Aguirre, in his dependencies of the Town Hall.
During the meeting, Aguirre explained some of the problems facing this thriving sector in the Region of Murcia, such as the difficulties they have in increasing production, and to open new aquaculture facilities unlike other autonomous communities that have regulations more permissive and a more agile processing.
According to the President of the FARM, this situation has as a consequence that many companies invest outside the regional territory, in Valencia or Andalusia above all, with the consequent loss of jobs.
Aguirre has reported that the production capacity of all aquaculture plants (seven in San Pedro del Pinatar, four in the El Gorguel Aquaculture Polygon, and two in Águilas) is 20,000 tons, but that they only allow them to produce about 7,000 tons, so they are only working at 35 percent of their capacity.
The spokesman of the orange training has reported that the strength of this sector in recent years has led companies to invoice more than 200 million euros annually and generate more than 400 direct jobs and thousands indirect.
In addition, the Region is the first producer of seabass in Spain and the second of sea bream, "which makes us a benchmark despite all the limitations they suffer."
