- According to the judge's order, although María del Carmen Berrocal knew the whereabouts of the piece since May 2017, not only did she not pick up the Roman tombstone but ended up filing a complaint against the people who found her and protected her, a complaint that has recently been shelved because there are no signs of criminality
Last December, the Court of Instruction No. 5 of Cartagena filed the complaint for misappropriation submitted by the City of Cartagena, in relation to the disappearance of a Roman ashlar from the monastery of San Ginés de la Jara.
This tombstone, disappeared since 2005, was found at the beginning of last year by the geographer Juan Carlos Blanco who contacted the director of the Ethnographic Archaeological Museum of San Pedro del Pinatar, Marcos David Gracia, and the president of the Association of Friends of San Ginés de la Jara, Javier Lorente, who in turn, and according to the judge's order, was contacted in May 2017 with the Heritage Coordinator in Cartagena, María del Carmen Berrocal to inform her of the finding and coordinate the transfer and return of the piece to the Cartagena inventory.
"Despite these contacts, the Heritage coordinator not only did not pick up the ashlar, a Roman tombstone of Numisio, but ended up filing a complaint against the people who found and protected the piece, a complaint that has recently been filed for not finding the investigating judge indications of criminality, has explained the spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, who believes that "this bizarre story, more typical of a crime novel, has raised doubts to our Municipal Group on the performance of Mrs. Berrocal, and for that reason it will present in the next ordinary Plenary a battery of questions to clarify the facts, and to demand responsibilities if there were them ".
Among other things, Ciudadanos wants to know what are the reasons that motivated the complaint for the alleged misappropriation of the piece, if as reflected in the judge's conclusions, the municipal coordinator of Patrimonio previously knew his whereabouts, and had already maintained Conversations for your transfer and delivery.
The orange training also wants to know why no one from the City Council picked up the sillar since its location was known in May 2017, and also wants to know if the local Executive is going to demand responsibility from the promoters of the complaint.
