The balance of the Port of Cultures of 2017 shows very positive figures regarding the number of visitors, since a total of 476,087 people have registered, which means a total increase of 42,414 tourists, that is, 10% more.
The interpretation center in which the number of visitors has increased the most over the past year has been the Barrio del Foro Romano with 21% more than in 2016, which coincided with the completion of the second phase of the excavations and the recovery of the Temple of the goddess Isis.
The Barrio del Foro is followed by the panoramic lift with 18% more users, the tourist bus with 13% and the catamaran with 12%.
The mayor and president of Cartagena Port of Cultures, Ana Belén Castejón, has stated that, "these data come to corroborate that Cartagena is an international tourist destination of the first order.
We are especially pleased with the increase in more than 10,000 visits in the Barrio del Foro Romano, which continues to consolidate as one of the main gems of our archaeological heritage.
In addition, we have launched a pilot experience that offers those visiting the site the opportunity to contemplate the excavation work of the third phase, with which the curia will be valued. "
As for the profile of the visitor, there has been an increase of 10 percentage points in foreign tourists, with about 70,000 people.
This is mainly due to the increase in the number of visitors of British and German origin, as well as the consolidation of the Scandinavian market.
Specifically, the most significant increase was that of tourists from the United Kingdom with 36,000 more people, from Germany with 16,525, France with 7,477, the Netherlands with 5,480 and Norway with about 3,000 more visitors.
It has also experienced a slight increase in the number of Spanish tourists from outside the Region, which remains stable.
