The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has received in its municipal offices the president of the TeleTaxi Association, Juan José Conesa to collect their demands and their concern about the preparation of the ordinance that the City Council is preparing since 2016 to regulate the sector.
The taxi drivers said that until recently they were unaware of the allegations presented by the other associations, and that the main difference they have with them is above all the one that refers to the creation of a single area that would enable professionals to work throughout the term municipal and not by zones, as is now established.
The spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, recalled that at the time, the Government of Cartagena recalled that the European directives and the doctrine of the Supreme Court uphold the need to distribute taxi work in cities based on a single area that regulates the sector, "but we do not know that you have made a decision about it."
According to the taxi drivers, so far the only thing they have been told from the municipal legal services and by the former councilor for Sustainable Development, María José Soler, "is that the different groups agree on each other".
The president of TeleTaxi has ensured that both a ruling of the Supreme Court in 2010 and European regulations "endorses and obliges unification, although he understands that his colleagues do not want to give ground is just".
Article 26 of the current taxi ordinance divides the municipal territory into zones I, II and III, being the Zone 1 formed by Cartagena city, San Antonio Abad, San Felix, Santa Lucia, the Plan, Canteras, Torreciega, Los Dolores Bohío, La Barriada Hispanoamérica, Vista Alegre and Molinos Marfagones;
Zone 2 includes the tourist area of Cabo Palos and La Manga;
and Zone 3 integrates the Polygon of Santa Ana, Ventorrillos de Santa Ana, Cabezo de Beaza Industrial Park, Los Urrutias, Escombreras, Albujón, Cuesta Blanca, La Aljorra, La Palma, Pozo de los Palos, El Algar, Los Nietos, Estrecho of San Ginés, Mar de Cristal, Llano del Beal, La Magdalena, Rincón de San Ginés, Isla Plana and Los Belones.
On the other hand, in a previous meeting of Citizens with representatives of Radio Taxi Cartagena, its president, Eusebio Rodríguez, assured that the unification of the zones could create a situation of unsustainability in the service, which could cause instability and insecurity, both economically and labor, its professionals, hinder the ability to offer a quality service, as well as violate the principle of equality and put the general interest at risk.
"From Ciudadanos we believe that enough time has passed to make a decision, even if it is an intermediate one between the two possibilities, we believe that the municipal government can not continue looking the other way, it must assume its obligation to make decisions as soon as possible, Although these are difficult, clarify the situation to our taxi drivers and put an end to the uncertainty of these groups and their families, so we are going to take a battery of questions to the next ordinary plenary to get it, "said Manuel Padín.
