The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martínez-Cachá, visited the Children's House in Cartagena today to supervise the end of the works of the first phase of the remodeling of the San Isidoro and Santa Florentina Brothers School, which includes the habilitation of classrooms for children with toilets and the provision of the necessary elements of accessibility.
With these actions, "the regional government meets its commitment and responds to a historic demand of the municipality," said the counselor, adding that "this work is a priority because it has allowed the removal of prefabricated classrooms that were installed in this center "
The cost of the works supposes an investment of more than 30,000 euros.
The improvement works consisted in the revision and adaptation of the electrical installation, in accordance with the regulations established in spaces for Infant Education, the installation of emergency luminaires, the signaling of fire protection equipment, the placement of fire extinguishers, as the replacement of the pavement in the classrooms and the repair of some areas of the roof that are in poor condition.
These actions are part of the comprehensive plan for the expansion and remodeling of the Hermanos San Isidoro and Santa Florentina schools, which will provide the center with new spaces such as classrooms, dining rooms and multipurpose rooms.
It is a complete remodeling of the entire building, which will affect the old hall, toilets and old chapel, with a total area of ​​350 square meters and 95 square meters of access gallery.
The property as a whole occupies an area of ​​852 square meters, plus 189 square meters of gallery.
Subsequently, the action will be completed with the establishment of a school cafeteria, toilets and multipurpose rooms.
More infrastructures in Cartagena
"The regional government is firmly committed to continue improving the educational infrastructure in Cartagena to enhance educational quality," said Martinez-Cachá.
In addition to the work of the House of the Child, the construction of the dining room is planned at the CEIP Vicente Ros;
a new center of Infant and Primary Education in La Aljorra, which will involve an investment of 4,025,000 euros;
the construction of a classroom in the IES Ben Arabí, whose budget is 383,000 euros;
the improvement of the electrical installation in the IES Politécnico, which amounts to 94,000 euros;
the extension of the Santa Florentina CEIP of La Palma, for an amount of 727,000 euros;
as well as the rehabilitation of the Lazareto building in the CIFP Hespérides.
