The official chronicler of Cartagena, Francisco José Franco, has recently been appointed new Corresponding Academician of the Royal Academy Alfonso X el Sabio.
This increases the specific weight within this organization of Cartagena and its history, along with other prominent members such as Luis Miguel Perez Adán, Pedro Fondevila, Cayetano Tornel, Elena Ruiz Valderas, Federico Maestre de San Juan and José María Rubio Paredes, among others .
Franco was born in Murcia in 1963, but resides in Cartagena.
He has a degree in Geography and History and did Doctorate Courses in the "Institutions, Society, and Economy" Program.
He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology and a degree in Law, among other studies.
The Royal Academy Alfonso X the Wise was born in Murcia in 1940, and depends on the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, as an autonomous body with legal personality.
Attached, since its foundation, to the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), and integrated into the Spanish Confederation of Local Studies Centers and the Institute of Spain.
The Academicians are named among outstanding personalities of culture in the Region of Murcia, their payroll is increasing over time, according to the rules governing the current Statutes, prevailing, in their choice, always the teaching prestige, where appropriate , the research or creative activity and the curriculum of the aspirants
The Institution fulfills the goals that were imposed, that is: to develop research in all areas of knowledge, especially in relation to regional culture;
disseminate the culture, and record, through the publications, of its research activity, bequeathing to the future, an extensive bibliographic repertoire, fundamental basis for the research work that can be carried out in the Region of Murcia.
