The Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena, whose patronage is integrated by the Community, the City of Cartagena and the Cajamurcia Foundation, has been visited during the past year 2017 by more than 220,000 people, which is 8 percent more than in 2016 and reaches again a record with respect to the numbers of visitors.
Since its inauguration, on July 11, 2008, more than 1,523,000 people have passed through the monumental complex, which consolidates it as the most visited museum in the Region of Murcia and one of the most frequented in the country.
One of the main objectives of the Museum of the Roman Theater, besides ensuring the conservation of its collections and the monument, is to increase the number of visitors and increase its degree of loyalty through different policies of promotion, attention and welcome to the visitor and the diversification of the services offered.
Regarding the visits in 2017, 72 percent were individual and family and 28 percent were group.
By origin, slightly more than half (53 percent) were foreign visitors, mainly English, but also Russians, French and Germans.
In Spain, the majority came from Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and Catalonia.
Regarding the scientific, cultural and educational dissemination, the continuous collaboration with different institutions has allowed to carry out important projects such as the organization of congresses, courses and conferences.
Annual courses are also organized annually with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena on Cultural Heritage and the museum has participated in various cultural events in 2017 such as' Cartagena Modernista ', the poetry festival' Deslinde 'or the days on' Evolution of the concept of Cultural Heritage in 40 years', in collaboration with the Hispania Nostra association.
All this has allowed to increase the number of users of the museum services by 63 percent;
an increase that has also been contributed by the program of temporary exhibitions, the activities of promotion of the library and the numerous cultural activities developed.
