Doctor in Telecommunications by the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Carlos Colodro, who recently defended his thesis, has been hired by the space of technological and business cooperation of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IACTEC) for the development of microsatellites.

Colodro, which participates through the UPCT in a project of the European Space Agency, now has the mission to design essential instruments for small satellites, such as high resolution cameras.

"In the call where the position was offered, they valued my experience in the design of astronomical instrumentation for the Euclid satellite," he recalls.

"The test models of the infrared communication and control module have been validated and we hope to receive a green light soon for the manufacture of the equipment that will be sent to space," he adds.

The thesis of the young Cartagena researcher, directed by Rafael Toledo and co-directed by Isidro Villó and Rafael Rebolo, collects his contributions for the design of electronic circuits with characteristics designed for space, such as tolerance to radiation, his participation in the development of a instrument for terrestrial telescopes that reduces the effect of atmospheric turbulence and the creation of a processing algorithm to improve the resolution and contrast of astronomical images.

National Award of University Education and End of Career and End of Master Award for his academic career at the Polytechnic of Cartagena, Colodro is part of the group of researchers of the UPCT that participates in the Euclid project of the European Space Agency.

"All the projects in which I have participated have been composed of multidisciplinary teams throughout Europe, especially the Euclid satellite, whose scientific and instrumental core involves around 1,450 participants.

This international collaboration materialized especially through a three-month stay at the Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino, "recalls Colodro.

"Ten years as a student of the UPCT give a lot.

I have evolved in so many aspects that now it is difficult to take stock of all this.

I am satisfied with having received a complete and quality training, having had teachers, project directors and theses that have served as real inspiration, "he concludes.
