Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín del Amor, met Tuesday with the person in charge and volunteer of the NGO Solidaridad Candelaria, Lola Martínez, and her brother and volunteer, Alejandro Martínez, to explain the work that is being done through this NGO in Malawi, and know the steps to establish a headquarters in Cartagena.
The Councilor has explained the first steps so that the headquarters can be put into operation.
This Wednesday, the 27th, the NGO will celebrate a solidarity day that will take place from 12:00 to 19:00 hours in the La Catedral bar, next to the Roman Theater, to raise funds for the different projects that it develops in Malawi.
The NGO, which was born in the parish of Our Lady of Candelaria in Seville, as a meeting place for all those who wish to commit themselves in projects in developing countries, collaborates in Malawi with the congregation of the Teresians Sisters (local counterpart).
Community programs are financed from the hospitals of Mtendere, Bembeke and Chiphwanya, as well as infrastructure support to grow hospitals.
Currently, a pharmacy, a laundry, a physiotherapy room and a pediatric ward are being built in the different hospitals.
On the other hand there are a series of community programs launched from hospitals to support the most vulnerable groups in the area of ​​influence such as malnourished children, people with albinism or orphans, offering different types of aid (school, health ...). thus helping the development of these people.
