The XII edition of the Technological Fair for Local Telecommunications Operators AOTEC, the reference event in this sector, will be held in 2018 at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), a sample that in its latest edition doubled the number of attendees exceeding the 2,300 and reached 115 stands and 74 exhibiting companies, and generated between 15 and 20 million euros.
It will be one of the largest samples of those held in the city so far.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Minister of Finance and Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Andrés Carrillo, the president of the National Association of Local Telecommunications Operators (AOTEC), Antonio García Vidal, and the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Alejandro Díaz, have intervened in the presentation of the new location of the fair, which during the last three editions had settled in the city of Seville.
The AOTEC Fair is the main national event for the sector of local telecommunications operators, companies that offer Internet connection services through broadband networks, as well as mobile telephony, landline and television content -the so-called quadruple play-.
This sector has a significant weight, with more than 1,100 companies distributed throughout the national territory, which is estimated to generate some 7,600 direct jobs and a turnover of 600 million euros (2015 data), as explained by García Vidal.
In addition, the current expansion process of these companies, which are mainly located in towns of less than 50,000 inhabitants, is accelerating the digitalization of Spain, especially in the rural world, opening up new business, training and entertainment possibilities.
This affects the improvement of the quality of life of citizens and the competitiveness of companies and the generation of employment.
INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT
The mayor of Cartagena has highlighted the impact it will have on the municipality, which is "safe" that "will be very positive", especially in the local economy, which will be "of a high level".
Ana Belén Castejón has assured that the election of Cartagena as the venue for this event has been a success, since the port city is "an emerging destination for the celebration of congresses and fairs" due to the richness of the tourist offer for the congressmen who attend , a "first order claim", from the archaeological heritage to its coast and its gastronomy.
The XII Technological Fair AOTEC 2018 will be managed by the new Congress Office of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.
"This is one of the great events that will allow us to demonstrate how we know how to do things in Cartagena," said the mayor.

The counselor, meanwhile, confessed that "this event has a huge significance" and is "a great opportunity" for Cartagena and the Region of Murcia.

LATEST TECHNOLOGIES
The show moves to Cartagena to continue growing in this XII edition, which will be focused on high-capacity networks and the future of 5G, as noted by the head of AOTEC, who has assured that they were looking for a new location because the Seville's precincts had been too small to the point that the supply of stands sold out in 15 days.
"We had to say no to companies interested in attending," he explained.
"The benefits and possibilities offered by the facilities of the Polytechnic University, we were finally convinced," he said.
This is joined by the city itself, which has become a quality destination capable of hosting a fair of these dimensions.
The event, which will be held on May 31 and June 1, and copará the upper half of the building of the Faculty of Business Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, with more than 2,000 square meters of exhibition area, uniting the rooms of Poniente and Levante and the auditorium Isaac Peral.
The Hall of Degrees will also be used to host conferences, explained the rector of the UPCT.
In addition, on May 30 will take place the plenary meeting of the national association.
In the Murcian region, local operators have specific importance, given that they provide services to practically all of the 45 municipalities and 12 counties in the territory of the autonomous community.
In this sense, García Vidal has assured that Murcia "stands out for its capacity for innovation, where AOTEC was born, where the telecommunications fair was born, which was held precisely in the city of Cartagena 12 years ago, and since then it has not stopped to grow in parallel with the evolution of the telecommunications sector, increasing its size by 500% ".
It is a business technology fair that this year will also be able to bring telecommunications students, who will have the opportunity to register and look at the reality of the sector.
"They are the future of our sector, whether they decide to start or work as technical advisers to the local operator," says García Vidal.
The AOTEC Fair brings together the main technical innovations in telecommunications every year.

Another of the great attractions of the AOTEC Fair is its cycle of technical conferences, which have become consolidated as a forum for information and debate on the regulation of the sector and on the future evolution of fixed and mobile networks.
Every year, the heads of the competent telecommunications authorities come from both the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNMC) and the central government as well as autonomous communities.
Local operators have played a prominent role in recent years in broadband deployments.
