The IX Route of the Fortresses has already established date and route.
The 2018 edition will be held on Saturday, April 14, starting at 8:05 am, when the general test will start from the Plaza de los Heroes de Cavite and Cuba.
One of the main novelties of this year's itinerary is its passage through the shipyards and the Navantia dock.
The Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Admiral of Maritime Action, Manuel de la Puente, and the Colonel Director of the Marine Infantry School 'General Albacete y Fuster' (EIMGAF), Enrique Montero, presented this Wednesday the new edition of the test in an act that was also attended by the first deputy mayor and sports councilor, Ricardo Segado, and the head of studies of the EIMGAF and technical director of the test, Miguel Gallardo.
The race, as always, maintains the distance of 53 kilometers, although it presents some novelties in its route.
On the one hand it highlights the passage through the shipyards and the Navantia dock, a stretch that will be two kilometers and that in the opinion of the director of the EIMGAF, entity in which the organization of the test rests, is a "journey that can be attractive".
On the other hand it is anticipated the passage through Sierra Gorda and, from there the route will be already the usual with some exceptions as the aforementioned, among others.
After the Castle of the Moors, the itinerary will direct the athletes to Sierra Gorda and then go to Calvary, San Julián, the city center, Fajardo, Galeras, the Atalaya, whose descent will be addressed again by the old route, the road, and finally the facilities of the EIMGAF, which will be accessed by the main entrance.
From the organization has expressed the desire that in this edition the course will be definitively stabilized and this will be marked and without variations for the coming years.
In the case of Calvario and San Julián, the traditional itinerary of the editions prior to 2016 will be followed. Likewise, the most important provisioning of the section of the historic center is transferred to Plaza San Francisco.
The race has an accumulated positive slope of 2,050 meters.
NEWS ALSO IN THE YOUTH TEST
In addition to the general test, they will also be held, as usual, the juvenile and the children.
In the first case, once the registration period for the juvenile category has ended, it will be opened to the general public for all those persons who, whether or not they belong to it, are not prepared to do the 53 kilometers in order that they can Enjoy part of the event touring two of the most emblematic sections such as the center of Cartagena and the climb to the Atalaya, although, yes, without competitive character in your case.
In general, there are usually about 100 seats left, which will be what these people can take advantage of for this promotional category.
The juvenile and promotional test, in addition, will have a somewhat more demanding route than last year, although interesting, on the other hand, because in addition to passing through these two representative places of the Route of the Fortresses, in the section of the center passes through the Windlass and also by the Castillo de la Concepción.
This race will start at the Plaza de los Héroes de Cavite and Cuba on the same day as the general one, on April 14, but at 9:00 am, and will also end at the facilities of the Marine Infantry School 'General Albacete and Fuster ', while the child will be held on the 13th at 18:30 and the start and finish will be located in the same square.
