The Local Police of Cartagena has controlled a total of 1,435 vehicles during the alcohol and drug detection campaign this Christmas.
In the campaign a total of 480 tests were carried out, of which 12 drivers showed a positive result in alcohol consumption, and another 4 did in cannabis use.
The tests were conducted while driving in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic, and has been developed in the municipality of Cartagena between December 11 and 17.
Apart from the detection tests carried out by the agents, 34 complaints were made for speeding and another 42 complaints for not presenting the vehicle to the Technical Inspection of Vehicles (ITV) in due time.
With these controls of alcohol and drugs has been pursued to educate drivers, that driving under the effects of these substances increases braking distance and decreases the reaction time.
This decrease in physical and mental abilities is the cause of numerous traffic accidents, so agents will continue throughout the next year 2018 with the realization of this type of controls.
