About a hundred people participated on Sunday, December 17, in the last of the visits programs by the association of Veterans Friends of Castile Cartagena, its Fortresses, Walls, Old Towers and Batteries (AFORCA) and the City of Cartagena, within the commemorative activities of the Year of Enlightenment.
The visit took place in the Castle of the Moors, one of the three built during this historic period, together with the Atalaya and Galeras, with the objective of occupying the dominant elevations and thus avoiding the conquest or harassment of the stronghold of Cartagena
Guided by the warden-president of AFORCA ,, Juan Lorenzo Gómez-Vizcaíno, the dozens of partners, supporters and citizens who wanted to join this activity, left at nine thirty in the morning from the church of Santa Lucia, ascending to the The eastern flank of the fortress through the streets of the Los Mateos neighborhood.
Documented by the explanations of the warden of AFORCA, the attendees knew details of this construction built at the end of the 18th century in the Cerro de los Moros;
of its pit and its different accesses and poternas;
as well as its characteristic elements common to the other two illustrated castles.
In the upper part of the fort, the splendid views offered over the city, the port and the countryside of Cartagena were contemplated.
The activity was framed within the cycle of guided tours that have been carried out to show the main fortifications made in the XVIII century.
With it will close this cycle, after those already made to Atalaya and Galeras.
AFORCA
Created in 1995, 22 years ago, it continues in this way with its informative work of the vast defensive heritage treasured by Cartagena, with the idea that knowing and feeling it as their citizens, will advance in its conservation and value by the competent administrations , as has already been the case of the Fort of Christmas, the Tower of Santa Elena, the Castillo de la Concepción and the Wall of Carlos III, among others.
