When there is still a week to finish the registration for the Mandarache Hache Award, which will be next Thursday, December 21, the Department of Youth of the City of Cartagena has registered a significant increase in the number of entries to participate in the project (1,000 more than the previous edition), so it is estimated that participation this year increased by 20% compared to the previous year.
Among other reasons for this increase in participation in the project are the incorporation into the project of new educational centers during the last two years, such as the La Vaguada School, the Narval and Carmelitas School in Cartagena, the participation of new schools in Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, which are part of the Mandarache Hache Prize thanks to the extension of the 'Mandarache Orillas' project, and very specially, to the delivery of the teaching staff of the Promoter Group, whose members have made a great effort in the enrollment of students and in the promotion of Mandarache activities in their educational centers.
To form the jury of the Mandarache and Hache Awards each year students register, organized by their teachers, in reading committees of six people each.
In front of the 750 committees that were registered in the previous edition, in this edition the figure exceeds the 900 registered reading committees.
This growth, which has exceeded the forecasts of participation, has led to an extraordinary purchase of copies by the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena, institution that promotes the project since its birth in 2004.
Good news, therefore, to welcome a new edition of the Mandarache Hache Award shortly before the meetings with the finalist authors begin: next week, before the closing of the inscriptions, the new edition of the project starts with the visit de Maite Carranza, author of the novel 'Caminos de libertad' (Edebé, 2016) with which she opts for the Hache 2018 Award. The author will visit Cartagena on December 19 and 20 and will carry out various activities and meetings with hundreds of readers to present your work and answer your questions.
