María Jesús Achega and the Food Bank received the individual and collective awards, respectively, for the 9th edition of the Voluntary Commitment Award, in an evening in which Alfonso Torres Carretero was also awarded posthumously.
In the event, which was held in the Classroom of Culture of Cartagena de Fundación Caja Mediterráneo attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, and the councilor delegate of Social Services and Mediation Social, Carmen Martín del Amor

These awards are a recognition to the main actors of the voluntary action organized Cartagena, as are the volunteers themselves and the entities of which they are part, and are part of the Municipal Volunteer Program of the City of Cartagena, which manages the Department of Services Social and Social Mediation, with the participation of the councils of Youth, Equality, Education, Culture and Sports.
ABOUT THE AWARDED
María Jesús Achega Jaúregui has volunteered for more than a decade in the La Huertecica Collective.
Its integration in the volunteering of this entity has been a great support to people who suffer exclusion, providing them with tools to overcome it, from their personal involvement and through social awareness and from the denunciation of the conditions that produce exclusion as well as supporting the struggle so that they disappear.
With the same commitment and dedication, María Jesús has cooperated in the solidarity movement of the city, actively participating in favor of the most vulnerable people, as president of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations, from the Carmen Conde Collective, Social Forum, as well as in other entities of great social importance in the municipality, always on the side of the weakest.
The Volunteer Project of the Food Bank of the Region of Murcia, for its part, is a nonprofit NGO dedicated to the distribution of staple foods to the most disadvantaged sectors of the population.
In Cartagena, it distributes food to 64 social entities, serving the basic needs of 20,195 beneficiaries, and 1,320 children under 2 years of age.
In addition, Alfonso Torres Carretero has been recognized posthumously for his important work developed at the head of this entity.
