The Councilor for Public Safety, Francisco Aznar, met on Tuesday with the Vice Chancellor of Innovation of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Pérez, and with professors Rafael Toledo and José Nieto, as well as representatives of the Local Police and technicians of the City of Cartagena, to address issues related to the development of the Master Plan to turn Cartagena into a 'smart city' (smart city) and the negotiation of the signing of the agreement for the creation of the Chair of Security.
This working meeting has served to bring positions in the collaboration between the City Council and the University.
According to the mayor explained, the Consistory has already prepared a first draft of this Master Plan, is part of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities and has made some proposals on the Strategy of Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development (EDUSI), with which the meeting has served as the first contact to work together in these aspects.
As Perez explained, the idea is to turn Cartagena into a sensorized city, where, for example, the traffic lights would be connected with each other to encourage pedestrians to circulate more easily, where tourists can learn about the municipality's history through codes QR, as well as facilitating the interconnection between cities, the management of databases that propitiate a better efficiency of the services that the City offers to citizens, improve management, more information to the supply of citizens and facilitate their access to services .
Likewise, Aznar recalled that recently the Board of Governors approved the creation of an 'Intelligent City Office' and the existence of a budget item destined to apply for programs and grants of the 'RED.es' program with a project of Intelligent Tourism that is beginning to be developed.
For all this is starting to create a big data platform.
On the other hand, the council has announced that it is working on a project of coexistence between cars and pedestrians in what is going to be called 'Zone 30' and that is already being developed and designed.
Another issue addressed has been the creation of the Security Chair, which is in the beginning and for which the signing of the agreement is being negotiated.
The professors Rafael Toledo and José Nieto have been present at the interview to discuss this Chair of Security that is expected to consist of dissemination, organization of seminars and training so that Cartagena is at the forefront in this matter, also through collaboration with the Forces Armed and with the knowledge of the latest technologies that facilitate the safety of citizens.
