The Rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, has ensured in the XV day for business leaders of the region of Cartagena, which has organized COEC, that the fundamental pillar for knowledge transfer occurs is the relationship between University and business.
Díaz Morcillo pointed out that traditionally it has been thought that the 'weak' pillar is the connection between universities and companies, but has assured that this is being reversed with initiatives such as the UPCT, where its Network of Chairs is already around 40 According to the rector, the collaboration between the UPCT and these companies is 'long-term' and serves, not only for students to be trained, but also for the University to know closely the research needs that exist.
The Rector of the UPCT has offered during a presentation that has shared with the president of the Port Authority, Antonio Sevilla, about the Port and the University: two pillars of the regional economy, data on the situation of the Polytechnic of Cartagena.
In this regard, he stressed that there are 444 lines of research and that the institution brings together more than 600 researchers and technologists and 6,000 official students.
Also, Díaz has pointed out that the impact of the resources that the UPCT brings together and generates are aimed at training professionals and generating the "highest possible employability" because "there is a growing demand for graduates in technological careers;
in training professionals we are ready to offer the business sector what it needs, "he said.
Finally, he has presented to the audience some graphs of the situation of Spain in competitiveness and innovation with respect to other countries of the world.
The country is in the 34th place in competitiveness, while the Rector has stated that it gets the 'worst grade of all' in innovation.
However, he has been 'optimistic because in the UPCT we are getting hopeful results'.
