Under the direction of Aki Kaurismäki the film presents the story of young Khaled, who arrives in Helsinki hidden in a cargo ship from Syria.
His asylum application is rejected, but he decides to stay anyway with the dream of finding his sister, who also fled Syria.
Meanwhile, Wikström, a fifty-year-old character with a gray life who works as a salesman, decides to change his life and open a decadent restaurant.
The paths of both characters will cross when one afternoon Wikhström meets Khaled at the door of his establishment and, excited, decides to offer him shelter, food and work.
An excellent film for critics
According to the criticism, "we are facing an excellent film, which knows how to show the real garbage in which we have turned our opulent societies, resorting to hilarious moments, as the director affirmed, to try to obtain more interest, in what is not he denies that he intends to stand up as a complaint. "
With this film, the Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki manages to awaken in the spectator an accumulation of emotions that explode with the diegetic music exhibited and heard, mainly when places of origin are remembered, those in which we can not remain, but there is no way that we are welcomed anywhere else.
Do not forget the touches of humor of the director, those magical moments that arise naturally and irony, without having to resort to various fuss.
