A few musicians are doing as well the label of Renaissance man as the British Michael Nyman, writer, musicologist, photographer and, of course, pianist, as well as composer in constant search of new horizons.
Accompanied by his band comes to the Cartagena Jazz Festival this Friday, November 24, to celebrate the forty years of this training in music.
The concert at the El Batel Auditorium will begin at 9:30 p.m.
Tickets cost 25 euros.
Then, in El Batel, the pianist Fabio Miano will perform.
Responsible for the application of the term minimalism, for the first time in music, and creator of the iconic soundtrack of 'The Piano, Nyman', arrives at the Jazz Festival with a concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Michael Nyman Band.
Created in 1976 for a theatrical production of a work by Carlo Goldoni and vehicle, since then, for productions that include works for orchestra, chamber music, operas and, very significantly, the creation of sheet music for Peter Greenaway's films such as The Draughtsman. s Contract (The artist's contract) and Prospero's Books.
A special anniversary concert, then, in which Nyman will review, in chronological order, his work for the Michael Nyman Band (soundtracks, vocal music and premiere pieces included).
A musical anthology that will undoubtedly confirm that Nyman remains among the most fascinating musical icons of our time.
After this concert, with free admission until full capacity, in the exhibition room of El Batel, it will be the turn of Fabio Miano Quartet.
Miano was born in Brindisi, Italy, but his family emigrated to Canada while he was still a child.
He began studying piano at the "Royal Toronto Conservatory" in Canada at age 8.
When he was 12 years old, his family crossed the pond again, this time in the direction of old Europe and settled in Brussels (Belgium), where he began his jazz studies with the pianist Paul Lambert.
In 1975, he stepped back on Canadian soil and settled in Montreal to continue his musical studies at the "Concordia University" and collaborate with various local groups.
Since 1979 he has moved regularly between his native country, Italy, Spain and Portugal with his own formations and accompanying musicians such as Steve Lacy, Bobby Watson, David Schnitter, Bob Mover, Pat LaBarbera, Massimo Urbani, Gary Bartz, Ricky Ford and the singer, Jeanne Lee among others.
With all of them he has participated in numerous festivals.
