On Monday, November 20, the International Day for the Rights of Children is celebrated.
With this motive, and framed within the celebrations programmed by the City council of Cartagena, through the councils of Social Services and Social Mediation and of Education, Cartagena has lived the great day of this ephemeris with the III March 'Walk for your Rights and several complementary activities.
Some 1,400 children from Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education throughout the municipality have participated in this day that has begun with the concentration at the beginning of Carrer del Carmen, from where the itinerary has started to end at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
The delegated councilor of Tourism, Obdulia Gómez, the delegated councilor of Social Services and Social Mediation, Carmen Martín del Amor, and the delegated councilor of Education and Equality, David Martínez, have accompanied this march with monitors who have energized the activities throughout the morning.
Also present were the mayors of the opposition groups Francisco Espejo, Esperanza Nieto, Ana Rama and Pilar Marcos, among others.
"We remember not only the rights of our children from here in Cartagena but throughout the world," said the mayor of Education.
"We have to raise awareness so that these rights are fulfilled throughout the world," he added.
Martinez stressed that "there has been a great participation" and has congratulated the schools, institutes and schools of early childhood education that have participated in the work they have carried out in the preparation of this event.
"We are increasing every year", has clarified in this aspect the councilor of Social Services and Social Mediation.
"That's the good thing", added Carmen Martín, who also indicated that the activities for this date have been extended to many more days, and the children of the municipality will make until Friday, November 24 workshops, movies or dances, among other entertainment , in collaboration with 14 social entities, as well as associations of the elderly and AMPAS.
Once the tour finished, in the Town Hall Square, the activity of 'Building the Garden of Rights' was held, followed by the reading of a manifesto for the rights of children, which was carried out in a original and entertaining way, in which the children have been reciting their rights and duties and have been putting them into an imaginary pot from which the result of "a happy childhood" has emerged.
The councilors who participated in the march have also taken part in this multitudinous act.
The day ended with an animation prepared by the IES Mediterranean and a flashmob organized by IES Los Molinos.
