Within the training actions of the '2017 Training Plan', seventeen members of the Fire Department have carried out a basic life support course and use of the external semiautomatic defibrillator - DESA.
The classes took place on November 9 and 16, with a duration of twelve hours.
The subjects have been taught by medical personnel certified by the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of CARM.
The course is part of the set of training activities developed in this year 2017 and is especially aimed at those who, by their trade, are frequently in emergency situations, so they can act effectively.
Throughout the course, concepts of first aid, assessment of the scenario and the victim have been explained, as well as intervening in the case of OVACE (airway obstruction due to a foreign body), releases, immobilizations, or how to move and transfer victims.
A fundamental part of this training has been to assess the level of consciousness of the victim and from there, the introduction on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and where appropriate, apply Basic Life Support (BLS).
To this end, practices have been carried out on how to initiate the sequence in basic CPR and pulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, acting with the use of a semi-automatic external defibrillator, following the protocol of the recommendations of the European Resuscitation Council and the Spanish Council for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
