The mayor obtains 180,000 euros from the regional government to rehabilitate cultural heritage (14/11/2017)

The Roman Amphitheater and the Mill of the Stones of Los Mateos will be the two beneficiary projects of the total of 180,000 euros in subsidies that the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has obtained from the regional government to rehabilitate Cartagena's cultural heritage.

Specifically, it is 100,000 euros, granted by direct subsidy to the City Council for the preparation of the Master Plan of the Roman Amphitheater and the execution of the works of consolidation of the bullring.

"This project will have a deadline of 12 months and will mean the beginning of work to put in value one of our most valuable jewels that, together with the Theater and the Roman Forum, make up an architectural ensemble of great heritage value", he explained. the mayor

Castejón managed to unblock the file of the Amphitheater after the meeting held last August with the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, in which he started the commitment to guarantee a departure for the drafting of the master plan.

The works of consolidation of the bullring intervene on elements of this, foundations, interior walls and façade, but do not affect structures of the Roman amphitheater, declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) and are compatible with its conservation.

The project establishes that the protected façade of the bullring be conserved, cataloged with Grade 3 Environmental Protection, which requires not to alter its external appearance.

Also, Castejón has agreed with the Minister of Culture, and so it has been transmitted by the Director General of Cultural Assets, a subsidy of 80,000 euros for the recovery project of Molino de las Piedras in Los Mateos.

This regional government aid is not incompatible with the subsidy charged to the cultural 1.5% requested by the City Council to implement the rehabilitation works of this mill and which is pending resolution.

The Molino de las Piedras is also listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest, it is located on a promontory 9 meters high next to the Los Mateos neighborhood and constitutes a characteristic element of the Cartagena landscape.

"We are pleased that the regional government has fulfilled these two commitments that had with our local heritage and we hope that Cartagena remains on the agenda of the Autonomous Community, especially in the new draft of regional budgets," concluded the mayor.
