The municipality of Cartagena has been awarded the Vision Zero Award for not having registered any fatalities in traffic accidents during the year 2016. An award granted by the Association of Traffic Engineers and Mobility Technicians.
The delivery of this award, which was collected by the mayor of Security, Francisco Aznar, the mayor of Tourism, Obdulia Gómez, as well as the Chief of the Local Police, Eusebio Serna, and the SubJefe, Jose Clares, took place during the IV Urban Mobility Days that have been held at the Cibeles Center in Madrid.
This recognition is granted to the municipalities of Spain of more than 100,000 inhabitants for not having fatalities due to traffic accidents in a year on urban roads.
"We are happy to receive this award, because it means that no citizen died in our municipality due to traffic accidents during the past year.
Since we assumed the functions of government, we have launched different campaigns to prevent accidents and we will continue working on awareness-raising activities.
This award is the recognition of the work done by our Local Police, Fire and Civil Protection officers every day, "the mayor explained.
During this year, different awareness campaigns have been carried out in terms of road safety, such as to prevent driving distractions due to the use of mobile phones, headphones or GPS;
to control the proper use of safety belts and restraint systems;
to avoid losses caused by the consumption of alcohol and drugs;
as well as to end the so-called accidents in itínere.
