The beach of Los Urrutias will recover this weekend its original appearance 25 years ago after the elimination by the regional administration of the last of the artificial springs that prevented the free circulation of water.
The Councilor for Decentralization, Juan Pedro Torralba, has celebrated the beginning of these works that the City Council has been demanding along with the Neighborhood Association for years.
"The removal of the last jetty will favor the circulation of water and we hope that in this way the sludge deposits will stop and that the neighbors will be able to enjoy a clean beach again"
Up to seven breakwaters were built in this area of the municipality of Cartagena during the nineties, in an attempt to artificially extend the beach.
The sands deposited between breakwaters were disappearing over the years and the docks remained standing acting as barriers and favoring the accumulation of sludge and garbage.
