Public transport prices will not rise in 2018 (08/11/2017)

Users of public transport in the municipality of Cartagena will not receive any increase in the cost of the service during the next year 2018. The proposed increase of the concessionaire, ALSA City, which was around 3% has been rejected by the City Council in response to the financial situation of the Consistory and the socioeconomic circumstances of the citizenship.

This was announced by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, who has appeared together with the director of the Mediterranean Area of ALSA, Valeriano Díaz, after the meeting previously held to deal precisely with this revision of the cost of the service, among other issues such as the placement of a stop in the vicinity of the Hotel Posadas de España, in the Cabezo Beaza Industrial Estate, and the study to improve coverage and frequency in the western area of the municipality.

FROZEN RATES

The first mayor has transferred to the representative of the company that "the City of Cartagena, because of its financial situation, and because it considers that citizens can not and should not support an increase in the fare of the ticket, is not in a position to assume any increase" .

In this way, the rate for 2018 will be frozen at the 1.20 euros that the ordinary ticket currently costs.

"We can not raise the price of the ticket to the user", explained the councilor.

The person in charge of the concessionaire has indicated in this regard that Ana Belén Castejón "has asked for an effort" in this sense and they have agreed to their request.

IMPROVEMENT OF SERVICE IN THE WEST AREA

Based on the great demand of the western area, the mayor has asked ALSA City to conduct a study of it and has advanced that the City will work with the concessionaire so that in December it can start the improvement of services.

Said study would consist in an analysis of the most frequent schedules to later present to the Consistory an approximate estimate "at the lowest possible cost" so that it can be contemplated in the municipal budget, which is being prepared at this moment, according to the first mayor , "in very austere circumstances".

Thus, the proposal will cover several phases.

In December, the first one will be implemented with the hours that are most demanded by the residents of the western zone, and then progress will continue "when budget availability so requires and also citizen demand".

Valeriano Díaz has clarified that, as of Christmas, there will be an increase in shipments in a minimum of three on working days.

In this Line 6, which passes through Molinos Marfagones, in addition to increasing the frequency of passage on weekdays and leaving the door open to extend the route to more locations in the municipality.

Later, once the study is finished, the real service will be announced.

It is a pilot project to increase and improve the service in the area, which is an old demand that the citizens of the place have long claimed.

Likewise, it has been agreed to submit a more detailed study to Line 7, which links Cartagena with Los Dolores and the Santa Ana Industrial Estate. This requires a much more exhaustive analysis, with a larger budget, since it is a larger issue. .

"We want to work in the medium term with this line," said the mayor.

During the meeting, Castejón has contributed ideas about the western area and about tourism, in relation to the urban service, how to exploit more the Port or changes in the line that leads to the Hospital.

That is why from the company they have assured that they are going to rethink the study including those suggestions, among which there are also improvements such as the incorporation of new technologies, wi-fi, the modernization of transport, digitization or innovation and lower the rate.

STOP AT THE CABEZO BEAZA POLYGON

The mayor has also transmitted to Valeriano Díaz a request that was born as a result of the meeting he had with the companies of the hotel sector and that involves the placement of a bus stop with a marquee in front of the Hotel Posadas de España that serves to provide both exit as input to customers and workers of the Industrial Area Cabezo Beaza.

This initiative, which Ana Belén Castejón has described as "very important", will be launched in the shortest period of time.

TRANSFER OF THE COMPETENCES OF THE REGIONAL TRAFFIC IN THE MUNICIPALITY

The acceleration of the segregation of municipal traffics has also been discussed at the meeting, which was already approved by the municipal council in 2015. "We have to reclaim it from the Ministry and we will continue working on that line," the first councilor specified.

In this regard, the councilor has indicated that regional traffic has to pass municipal competition and both parties have agreed to "remind the regional government."

Castejón has said that it has been "a very positive meeting" in which the "predisposition of the company and the City Council" has become clear and in which the interests of the municipal executive have been transferred to "redistribute the budget much better so that the The citizens of Cartagena will benefit from it. "

"We come with realities and actions that are possible," the mayor said.
