Some four thousand students will meet at the I Week of Science and Energy of Cartagena (08/11/2017)

Fundación Repsol brings to Cartagena, for the first time, the Week of Science and Energy, from November 13 to 17, with the collaboration of the Polytechnic University and the Department of Education of the City of Cartagena.

For five days, the Auditorium and Conference Center of El Batel will become a great laboratory of experiments in which some 4,000 students of Primary, Secondary, Bachelor and FP will live in first person the importance of science.

The presentation of the event was given by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, accompanied by the Rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz, and by the Vice President of the Repsol Foundation, Ignacio Egea, and all have shown their interest in getting science to as many people as possible.

In this sense, Castejón stressed that for this, the Department of Education directed by David Martínez Noguera, has joined this project, to bring the range of activities included in the Week of Science and Energy to schools in the municipality and to promote interest in these important matters for the future, "the scientific development of a country is essential for its growth and awakening in the little ones the passion for science is not an easy task, although with this type of initiatives a lot is done more attractive, hence the support of this government team. "

For his part, the rector of the UPCT emphasized the need to awaken technological vocations, which is why it is necessary for the University to be involved in this type of scientific dissemination event, "the problem we currently have is that engineers are missing, Once there is more demand in this field, but the offer has fallen, which is why we are willing to start a social battle and show the great labor supply and employability that exists, and this event is in that line ".

In the importance of energy, and especially in sustainable energy, impacted Ignacio Egea, and with this Week of Science, under the theme 'Have fun learning' will try to make an important exercise for social awareness, and we must start by the youngest ones, "that through the awareness of the children, families become aware".

The presentation was also attended by the director of the Repsol refinery in Cartagena, Juan Antonio Carrillo de Albornoz, the Deputy Director of Personnel and Organization, Luis Roque, the councilor of the Area of ​​Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, and the municipal coordinator of Education , José Carlos Fernández.

A WEEK OF ACTIVITIES

Scientific workshops, conferences, exhibitions and shows are some of the proposals for this week dedicated to science and energy.

An activity with which Repsol contributes to the dissemination of science among society and awareness of the need to make responsible use of energy resources and to bring the world of energy closer to the youngest ones in an informative way.

Primary students will be able to approach the world of energy through scientific workshops: "Oil explorers", "The race of the energy mix", "Transporting CO2" and "The puzzle of the circular economy".

While Secondary students will participate in the activity "Route of energy", a tour of short demonstration workshops, to discover in a fun and entertaining way the different energy sources and their characteristics.

All of them will enjoy the show "Science in a big way", a show with great experiments to learn about science.

FOR ALL THE PUBLIC

In the afternoons, Science Week is extended to university students and the general public through exhibitions such as "Repsol and energy", a show about the different sources of energy and the energy future, in which you can see the Marc Márquez's motorcycle and meet an oil platform through virtual reality.

For its part, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has prepared three activities for the evenings on Wednesday and Thursday, a "Workshop of energy models", which aims to awaken the curiosity of children and answer questions from the most seniors on various issues;

the show "Bloopbuster, hunters of gazapos", where the scientific reliability of the technological aspects that are shown in futuristic science fiction films will be analyzed;

and a "Challenge Championship of the energy mix", a team game, made up of university students, with which it is intended to show how we can manage energy to meet the needs of the present and the future.

One of the highlights of the program will be the scientific show "Misión Cosmos.

Journey through the history of energy ", by Dani Jiménez, a physicist and scientific disseminator, pioneer in the use of experiments as a tool for stimulation and learning, recognized for participating in television programs such as" Orbita Laika "and" El Hormiguero ".
