The municipality of Cartagena has been awarded the Vision Zero Award for not having registered any fatalities in a traffic accident during the year 2016. The award ceremony, which will be hosted by the Security Councilor, Francisco Aznar, will take place during the IV Conference of Urban Mobility to be held at the Cibeles Center in Madrid.
"We are happy to receive this award, because it means that no citizen died in our municipality due to traffic accidents during the past year.
Since we assumed the functions of government, we have launched different campaigns to prevent accidents and we will continue working on awareness-raising activities.
This award is the recognition of the work done by our Local Police, Fire and Civil Protection officers every day, "the mayor explained.
During this year, different awareness campaigns have been carried out in terms of road safety, such as to prevent driving distractions due to the use of mobile phones, headphones or GPS;
to control the proper use of safety belts and restraint systems;
to avoid losses caused by the consumption of alcohol and drugs;
as well as to end the so-called accidents in itínere.
